Blues improvisation

Took a break during the recording of a completely different song and played a short blues improvisation on a T Revisited Custom Open Back from Rod Creek Guitars.

Played a little sloppy in a few places. But what a sound!

How to play Red House by Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix was an amazing blues guitarist and singer and the slow blues Red house was his masterpiece.

Here you’ll find the guitar chords to Red House and learn how to play the rhythm guitar.

Eventually there will also be lessons in how to play the intro, stick and solo to the wonderful blues song Red House.

Here’s a simple version of Red House…

Fingerpicking When You Got a Good Friend

Recorded an acoustic fingerpicking version of Robert Johnsons When You Got a Good Friend the other day. Tried to do it in some kind of Eric Clapton style.

I just used a Rode NT 4 plugged into a Panasonic video camera. No post processing applied.

Eric Clapton From the Cradle

Eric Claptons blues album From the Cradle from 1994 is one of my favorite blues records.

The selected blues songs on the album covers a variety of blues styles.

If you can play the blues in the style of Third Degree, Reconsider Baby and I’m Tore Down then you’re definitely on your way as a blues guitarist.

Deep Blues by Robert Palmer

Just begun to read the blues book Deep Blues by Robert Palmer.

It came out in 1981 so it’s been a while but it is still interesting.

In our section about blues history you’ll find a quote from the prologue of the book talking about why it’s so hard to play Delta blues in the right way.
